Sustainable energy sources help to protect our environment, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and ensure a sustainable energy supply in the long term. They are therefore the first choice for elobau. It is true that elobau is able to generate its own electricity: large areas of the company’s buildings in Leutkirch are already equipped with photovoltaic systems that supply around 1,000,000 kWh of energy per year. However, in phases when the sun does not shine often, elobau is dependent on an additional supply of energy from outside. Here, elobau consciously works with two regional providers in order to strengthen sustainable energy generation in the Allgäu.
elobau obtains its electricity from Allgäuer Überlandwerk (AÜW), which is generated 100 percent in the Allgäu. It comes from Allgäu generation plants and supplies clean energy from regional hydropower, biomass, photovoltaic and wind power plants. elobau also relies on a sustainable source from the region for its gas supply: biogas. This is produced by a ThüGa plant near Kißlegg and fed into the central energy grid just five kilometers from the company premises. Food waste from the catering trade is processed to produce that biogas – an example of a successful circular economy in which organic waste is reused to generate energy. In this way, the environmental impact of waste is reduced and the sustainable use of resources is promoted.
Whether as a company or a private household, regionally produced renewable energy is always a good choice. They support the local economy, reduce dependencies on fossil fuels and geopolitical crises and promote long-term resources. A win-win situation and an investment in a sustainable future for us all.
